Russian Chess Federation (RCF): 10-year-old Shogdzhiev will become the youngest international master in history
10-year-old Roman Shogdzhiev has completed the requirements for the title of international master nearly five months earlier than the previous record-holder, Faustino Oro. The RCF clarified that FIDE will officially grant the title in early July.
The Russian Chess Federation’s press service announced that Shogdzhiev would become the youngest international master in history.
At a tournament in Belgrade, Shogdzhiev, at the age of 10 years, 3 months, and 21 days, fulfilled the third and final requirement for the title, breaking the record previously held by Argentina’s Faustino Oro (10 years, 8 months, and 16 days).
The RCF congratulated the chess player, his parents, and his coaches.
The international master title precedes the grandmaster title.
RCF Executive Director Alexander Tkachev told TASS that the International Chess Federation (FIDE) will officially grant Shogdzhiev the title at its upcoming presidential council in early July.
