Afghanistan’s Railway Freight Transport: 333 Thousand Tons in One Month

03.06.2025

The development of Afghanistan’s railway infrastructure significantly impacts the country’s economy. Over the past month alone, more than 333 thousand tons of cargo were transported to Afghanistan via rail. These figures confirm the country’s expanding transit transport capabilities and the intensification of international trade relations.

Afghanistan’s railways are primarily used through transport corridors connecting the country to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran. Through these routes, petroleum products, food supplies, industrial materials, and other essential goods are transported. As economic relations deepen, the volume of freight transport also increases.

Turkmenistan plays a crucial role in Afghanistan’s transport corridors. The transit freight operations through Turkmenistan’s railway network contribute significantly to the development of regional cooperation. In particular, the Turkmenabat-Torghundi railway line drives Afghanistan’s economic growth.

Future plans include further expansion and modernization of Afghanistan’s railway infrastructure. These projects aim to improve transport logistics efficiency and ensure the rapid and safe delivery of goods.
