Yesterday, on June 18, an international chess tournament in the Turkmen capital successfully concluded with the participation of athletes from 11 European and Asian countries. A total of 129 players aged 8, 10, and 12 took part from Turkmenistan, Vietnam, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan.
The opening ceremony and main rounds were held at the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of the Ashgabat City Department of Physical Culture and Sports. The tournament was thoroughly prepared and organized by the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.
Over the three days of the tournament, rapid and blitz competitions were held among boys and girls in three age categories, with 12 sets of medals awarded. The award ceremony took place at the same school upon conclusion of the event.
After the final results were announced, a charity event was held in the banquet hall of the “Markaw” hotel in Arkadag city. Participants received gifts from the Charitable Foundation named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on behalf of the National Leader of the Turkmen people. These gifts were also presented to the accompanying parents, coaches, and medical staff of each national team.
The celebration concluded with performances by Turkmenistan’s children’s creative groups.
