Pamfilova urged to create a law on the use of AI in the elections

27.07.2025

The head of the Central Election Commission of Russia Ella Pamfilova said that the country needs to develop a law regulating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the elections. According to her, now there are no such rules, and this creates risks for the honesty of voting.

Pamfilova noted that the use of AI can lead to the appearance of fakes and diplomas. This can affect people’s opinions and interfere with the free choice. So, in one of the regions there was already a video with a fake statement from a well -known candidate for withdrawal from the elections, which many accepted for the truth. Fortunately, the specialists reacted in time.

The CEC is actively working to protect the elections from cyber attacks and other threats. Pamfilova emphasized that the commission is looking for and eliminating possible problems in advance in order to prevent interference in the electoral process.

Pamfilova is sure that with the beginning of the autumn session of the State Duma, it will be necessary to quickly adopt a law that will establish the basic rules for using AI in the elections and protect the electoral system from manipulations.
