SK Hynix confirmed that she was working on new GDDR7 video memory chips. These modules are designed for future video cards, including the NVIDIA RTX 50 Super line.
Until recently, the GDDR7-memory was available only in the volume of 2GB per chip, which limited its use. The first 3GB chips presented Samsung-they are already used in the laptop RTX 5090 and the professional RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell. Now SK Hynix will join them.
The transition to 3GB chips allows NVIDIA to increase the total volume of video memory without changing the width of the tire. According to rumors, the RTX 5080 Super will receive 24GB, RTX 5070 Super – 18GB, and RTX 5060 – 12GB of memory.
SK Hynix also plans to use such a memory for AI solutions and servers. The company is already preparing LPDDR modules and expands the GDDR7 line for neural networks.
