According to Reuters, Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a lawsuit against Chinese Tencent. Sony accused Tencent of copyright violations and illegal use of trademarks that are associated with the popular series of Horizon games.
The lawsuit was filed on the basis that Tencent is promoting the new Light of Motiram game. The position of Sony is that the project is a “obvious copy” of the Japanese franchise, in this game the key elements of gameplay, plot motifs and artistic style are allegedly borrowed in this game. It is emphasized in the lawsuit that such a similarity can mislead players.
One of the Sony arguments is the fact that in 2024 the owner of the franchise rejected Tencent’s proposal about the joint development of a new gaming project in the Horizon universe. However, after that, the Chinese corporation announced Light of Motiram.
Sony emphasizes that the sectoral press also drew attention to the similarity of the games, which characterized the Tencent project as an imitation, and one of the journalists even wrote “Horizon: Zero originality”.
Sony requires Tencent monetary compensation and a judicial ban on further use or copying your content.
