Spotify published the results for the second quarter of 2025. The number of paid subscribers grew stronger than expectations, but the total revenue and operating profit were lower than the planned indicators.
For the quarter, the service added 8 million paid subscribers, which is 3 million more than the forecast. Compared to last year, the number of paid subscribers increased by 12%, reaching 276 million. The total number of active users per month amounted to 696 million, which is 11% more than last year.
However, revenue amounted to € 4.2 billion, and operating profit – € 406 million, which is lower than forecasts (€ 4.3 billion and € 539 million, respectively).
One of the reasons for the decrease in profits was additional expenses in connection with the legislation of Sweden, where the company is registered. Due to the increase in the value of the Spotify shares, I had to pay € 98 million more social contributions.
The company predicts 710 million active users and 281 million paid subscribers to the third quarter. At the same time, revenue is expected at the level of € 4.2 billion, and operating profit – € 485 million.
