The American Congressman Republican John Mulenaar criticized the decision to resolve the NVIDIA to resume the supply of his H20 chips to China. In his opinion, this can contribute to the accelerated development of Chinese technologies of artificial intelligence (AI) and undermine the US advantage in this area.
In a letter to the US Minister of Trade, he expressed concern that such deliveries would give China the opportunity to create more powerful AI models, which can be used both for military purposes and for internal censorship. The congressman also demanded to provide detailed information about plans to licensing the export of these chips, including the number of devices and a list of recipients.
Initially, H20 exports were banned in April for national security reasons. However, NVIDIA recently stated that she would receive permits for deliveries under a new policy. This caused a wave of questions and criticism from some legislators, including representatives of both parties.
