The Turkish Ajet airline was banned by the Powerbank use on board, following the recommendations of the Main Directorate of Civil Aviation of Turkey (SHGM).
According to the new rules, the lithium-ion portable charger with a capacity of up to 100 W, electronic cigarettes and spare batteries can be transported only in manual luggage, but it is prohibited to use them during the flight.
To transport batteries with a capacity of 100 to 160 W · h, a special permission of the airline will be required. The batteries over 160 W · h in the luggage cannot be transported, but they will be allowed to transport in the form of cargo subject to special conditions.
The measure was introduced after the incident on July 29 on the Assiana Airlines flight from Istanbul to Seoul: Powerbank Passenger fell between the seats and stuck, which forced the plane to return to the departure airport.
The Minister of Transport of Turkey Abdulkadir Uraloglla called such devices a potential risk and, through SHGM, recommended that the airlines prohibit their use in flight.
