Boston Dynamics, together with Toyota Research Institute (TRI), showed the Atlas robot, controlled by the “Big Model” (Large Behavior Model, LBM). In the new video, Atlas performs a long sequence of complex actions – he walks, cries, lifts and moves objects, while reacting to unexpected situations. So, he moved the box while he was going to the target.
The main feature of the technology is that now one artificial intelligence controls all the movements of the robot – the legs and arms work coordinated, without the need to write individual programs for each task.
The cooperation of Boston Dynamics and Tri began in October 2024 in order to accelerate the creation of smart robots that can perform various tasks in the real environment. According to Scott Cindersma, vice president of the study of robotics in Boston Dynamics, such a system helps to create robots that easily learn new tasks and work with “more accuracy and effort”.
