During the elections, Donald Trump promised to actively fight large technological companies, but since the coming to power, these promises have been fulfilled “weakly”, the media write. The recent report by Public Citizen shows that the US administration has suspended or withdrawn a third of all investigations and measures against technological companies.
At the beginning of the second term, Trump 104 companies faced 142 federal investigations and inspections. By August, 47 of these actions were suspended or completely canceled. Among the companies that the measures were suspended, PayPal and Tesla, as well as Coinbase, Crypto.com and Kraken cryptocurrencies, were suspended.
It is noted that many of these companies actively supported Trump financially. Since the beginning of 2024, the companies, their leaders and investors introduced approximately $ 1.2 billion mainly to the Republican Party and “directly for the needs of Trump”. Ilon Musk spent almost half of this amount, whose companies are faced with the largest number of federal investigations – at least 19 cases from nine different agencies.
Experts note that the suspension of investigations on cryptocurrencies and other technological firms can “weaken the responsibility of business” and “create a sense of impunity”.
