Judicial materials showed that at the beginning of 2025, Ilon Musk addressed the head of Meta* Marc Tsuckerberg with a proposal to participate in the purchase of Openai for $ 97.4 billion.
Musk was one of the founders of Openai in 2015, but later relations with the company and its leader Sam Altman deteriorated. The businessman was against the organization to move from a non -profit model to a commercial. In 2023, Musk created his own company XAI and sued Openai, accusing it of violating the agreements.
In response, Openai said that the offer of Mask and the XII to buy the company was “fictitious” and caused damage to the business. In addition, Openai accused the mask of pressure through court claims, the press and social networks.
The case is connected with the judicial dispute between the Mast and Openai, which began last year. The lawsuit is considered in the Federal Court of Northern California. Recently, the judge allowed Openai to put forward oncoming claims to the mask.
So, according to the documents, Musk and his team sent a letter to Tsuckerberg about intent and offered to discuss possible financing. However, Meta* and its leader did not sign an agreement.
Meta* officially does not comment on the situation.
