In October, Steam support for MacOS Big Sur 11 2020 will stop

07.08.2025

Valve officially announced the termination of Steam client support for MAC computers operating on 2020 Big Sur MacOS 11.

Support for this version of Steam will cease on October 15, 2025. From this date, MacOS 11 Big Sur users will not be able to launch Steam, as well as games purchased through the platform.

Valve officially substantiated its decision by technical restrictions. The key functionality of Steam depends on the built-in version of the Google Chrome (Chromium) web browser, which has lost compatibility with previous versions of MacOS. In addition, subsequent updates of customer software will require the use of functionality and security systems available exclusively in MacOS 12 and later versions.

If users do not transfer the data, there will be a complete loss of access to Steam and the library of games on devices running MacOS 11. To continue the use of the service, users will have to update MacOS to a more relevant version. At the same time, the MacOS 11 Big Sur C is a relatively new OS, published at the end of 2020.
