Russian scientists, from MIF, have created new types of steel that are better suited for the manufacture of parts of nuclear reactors and other devices. These steels have improved strength and resistance to different conditions.
According to the Center for Scientific Communication of the MIP, this is important for the safety of nuclear power plants. The work of scientists included several stages: searching for information, computer training, creating an algorithm and checking new materials. Typically, such work is rarely carried out and do not always lead to the creation of new, improved steels.
Typically, for nuclear stations, special steel with chrome, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium are used. These have become strong and stable, which is important for safety.
Russian scientists have created a computer system that helps to develop new types of steel. The system uses machine learning algorithms and the existing information about steels. The database included 294 types of steel and more than 4000 records of their properties.
The system works like this: first, the computer creates random steel options, then changes them to improve properties. For this, the system connects different steel options, combining the best qualities and given the microstructure of steel.
As a result, the system has formed the structure of 5 new types of steel, which are better than existing. Scientists checked the steels received and found that these conditional brands are very strong and resistant to damage. These materials can be used to create more reliable casements of nuclear reactors.
