US federal prosecutors have accused the Oregon resident Itan Folets of creating and using a botnet for cyber attacks. According to the investigation, since 2021 he controlled a network under the names of Rapper Bot, Eleven Eleven Botnet and Cowbot, which was used for large-scale DDOS attacks around the world.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Botnet attacked the victims in more than 80 countries, and since April 2025 he made over 370 thousand attacks against 18 thousand unique goals. Rapper Bot was one of the most powerful DDOS-beets in history, said Alaska district prosecutor Michael J. Hayan.
One of the victims of Rapper Bot became the social network X (formerly Twitter), which in the spring was disabled using a DDOS attack. Then cybersecurity experts suggested that the initial problem could be associated with the vulnerable servers of the company itself.
