The US Army tested a quadrocopter equipped with the Claymore anti -personnel mine to intercept the goals, writes Lenta.ru.
During the tests, the operator flew up to the target and manually activated the explosion, destroying the target with a directed charge. The tests took place on the basis of Fortrarier in Alabam with the participation of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, the National Guard of Pennsylvania and the US Army Center.
The Claymore mine, developed in the 1950s, is usually activated by stretching or manual detonator. When triggered, it throws out about 700 steel balls, which amaze the targets at a distance of up to 250 meters. The new method of use makes it effective not only against ground objects, but also of air goals.
Experts note that such the use of a drone with a mine shows that old technologies can be adapted to modern military tasks.
