In Japan, a new trial began against developers of artificial intelligence (AI). Nikkei and Asahi Shimbun filed a lawsuit against the Perplexity Ai startup, accusing him of copyright violations.
Newspapers require a compensation of 2.2 billion yen from the American company, which is approximately $ 15 million for each of the parties. They also achieve a judicial ban on the further use of their materials without a license. The lawsuit was filed in the Tokyo District Court.
Publishers claim that Perplexity used their articles without permission, copied and maintained content from the sites at least last June last year. In addition, the system ignored special technical restrictions on the use of publications. In some cases, in the issuance of artificial intelligence there were errors that were attributed to the newspapers, which, according to the publishers, caused damage to their reputation.
