NASA has lost contact with the space lunar apparatus

07.08.2025

NASA stopped attempts to restore with a small Lunar Trailblazer device, which in February went to explore water on the moon.

The device was launched along with the Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission from the Kennedy space center on February 26. After separation from the rocket, communication with him was established, but the very next day the contact was lost and it was not possible to restore it. This prevented the necessary maneuvers and direct the device to the moon.

According to NASA, the problem arose due to the fact that the solar panels could not turn to the sun correctly, and the batteries were discharged.

The main task of the mission was to create detailed cards with water on the surface of the moon, as well as the determination of its quantity and shape. These data would help future robots and astronauts, as well as scientists to better understand the cycles of water on the airless bodies of the solar system.

Many organizations tried to catch a signal and monitored the device, but he slowly rotated and retired into space. Hopes for restoration of communication did not materialize.
