Specialists from the Novosibirsk State Medical University and the Federal Research Center of the fundamental and broadcast medicine have developed a new method of combating pain in the diabetic neuropathy of the stop. The technique involves injections of type botulinatoxin, and at certain points of the sole.
With diabetic polyneuropathy, the nerve fibers of the foot are damaged, which causes chronic pain, which increases at rest and during stress. In severe cases, ulcers develop. The new method involves the introduction of the drug at 20 points of the foot, including a heel, a pillow and a thumb area.
Tests for 20 patients aged 28 to 89 years showed that a single procedure provides an analgesic effect for 12 weeks. Botulotoxin was previously used mainly for the treatment of migraine and postoperative pain.
Scientists note that the method is especially effective for painkillers of the supporting zones of the foot. The drug temporarily blocks neuromuscular transmission, reducing pain. The development is already patented, but requires additional clinical trials before wide implementation in practice.
