PlayStation 5 took 11th place in the ranking, despite the growth of sales

09.08.2025

According to the Sony report, the sales of the PS5 console increased by 2.5 million units in the first quarter of 2025 – to 80.3 million pieces due to the release of the PS5 Pro in November 2024. However, this console is by no means a sales leader.

The novelty took 11th place among the best-selling consoles in the world, losing 1st PS2 place from 160.63 million. Despite the fact that the PlayStation 5 has not so many exclusive games, more consoles have been sold in the first quarter of 2025 than in the first quarter of 2024. Sony sold 2.5 million consoles against 2.4 million. Probably, this is due to the release of PlayStation 5 Pro in November last year.

It is noted that Sony sold more games for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 than last year. 64.9 million copies were sold compared to 53.6 million. Perhaps this is due to the fact that Microsoft first released its games for PlayStation. For example, more than 3 million copies of Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 were sold.

Although PlayStation Plus prices continue to rise, the number of active users of the company’s subscription service is increasing. In the first quarter of 2025, 123 million active users were registered per month, while in the first quarter of 2024 there were 116 million.
