Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. According to the document, by 2035 their volume should amount to 65–67% of the indicators of 1990.
This decision was aimed at fulfilling the obligations of Russia under the Paris Agreement of December 12, 2015. In the decree, it is emphasized that a decrease in emissions should occur without taking into account the absorbing ability of forests and other ecosystems. At the same time, it is important to maintain sustainable development of the economy and access to the necessary technologies.
Earlier, the president set the task to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. For this, it is planned to use various methods such as the development of atomic and hydropower, an increase in forest area, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies in all industries.
