Russia has the necessary competencies for the development of a supersonic passenger aircraft. This was stated by the General Director of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov. At the same time, he noted that the main obstacle to the implementation of such a project is the economic component.
Features of the design of supersonic aircraft, including specialized engines, make their operation extremely road. This is confirmed by the experience of the British-French Liner “Concord”, which flew more than twenty-five years. High costs led to the fact that tickets for it became available only to wealthy passengers.
Currently, guaranteed market demand for aircraft of this class is not observed. However, Chemezov did not rule out that the development of technology could change this situation in the future. According to him, promising research in the field of supersonic passenger transportation continues.
