TASS, citing the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems, RAS reports that the launch of the second satellite of the Bion-M series from the Baikonur cosmodrome is scheduled for August 20.
On board the Bion-M biosnettnik will be placed 75 individuals of mice, 1,500 fruit floods, different plants and microorganisms. The main goal of launch is to conduct research on the security of the high -wing orbit with the aim of the subsequent placement of the Russian orbital station on it.
As noted, a series of spacecraft “Bion” is designed to perform biological studies aimed at studying the influence of space factors, such as radiation and weightlessness, on living organisms. The first apparatus of the series, Cosmos-605, was brought to orbit in 1973. In 2013, the launch of the first Bion-M satellite was launched, on the board of which were mice, Mongolian gerbils, geckos, snails, plants and artificially created colonies of various bacteria.
“The launch of the Bion-M satellite No. 2 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome is scheduled for August 20,” it was said.
