Rutube video hosting conducted the first test of the publication of content in 8k format. As a demonstration, the “I love” animation clip was loaded from the San Porto studio with a resolution of 7680 × 4320 pixels, HDR support and a frequency of 50 frames per second.
The original video file occupied more than 100 GB, but after processing the platform reduced its size to 453 MB without visible quality loss. This was a record – not a single file previously loaded on Rutube in such a volume.
According to the technical director of the platform Rostislav Chernakov, in the near future Rutube plans to introduce support for modern video codes, including AV1. This will not only view, but also load user content in 8K format.
