Shanghai authorities announced plans to complete the construction of at least five large data centers before the end of this year. This is part of the Chinese large -scale strategy to strengthen the digital infrastructure necessary for the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
According to the published data of the Shanghai Communication Department, the new stage of expansion will allow the city to exceed the computing power in 100 exaflops. One exaflops is equal to one quintillion operations with a floating comma per second – this indicator is used to assess the speed of supercomputers.
For comparison, in June last year, the total computing capacity of China was 246 exaflops, which puts the country in second place in the world after the United States.
The construction of new data centers has intensified throughout the country since the beginning of the year, after the launch of the DeepSeek model-the productive Open-Source for logical problems. This is stated in the Moody’s Ratings report.
