The captain of the Roscosmos cosmonauts detachment, Hero of Russia Oleg Kononenko, said that Russia should build a new space station and a new ship for flights. Kononenko told about this during the “Festival of New Media”, indicating the directions of the development of the domestic manned cosmonautics.
He also compared the Russian spacecraft “Soyuz” with others. According to Kononenko, Elon Musk uses old technologies, and nothing “cardinal from the point of view of the official side and ships has been made.” At the same time, the Russian astronaut admitted that the ships of the mask are modern, and the Soyuz, although it looks outdated, is modernized, and this is a ship of the 21st century. It emphasizes that this is a modern ship, “most devices have already been replaced [на современные]”
“If we talk about the manned space, then this is the creation of a new ship and a new orbital station. Because the ISS is already slowly working out its term. The information from the orbit is still discussed, but this is not a decade, but the next decade. Therefore, Russia needs to create a new station in order to have no breaks in manned flights. We must still remain in a low orbit around the Earth in order to work out the technologies of future interplanetary flights, ”Kononenko emphasized.
