The brand-communications manager of the Russian manufacturer of computer technology IRU Artyom Pishchulin told how to protect the laptop from theft as as much as possible. There is a method that makes the theft of a laptop meaningless.
According to Pishchulin, although in most laptops there is no fingerprint scanner or face recognition, but there are simple ways that can stop the thieves. One of the simplest ways to protect is Kensington Castle – a small durable connector on the laptop body where a special cable is inserted. Even if the thief tries to steal a laptop, he will have to work hard to eat the cable, or the attacker will try to tear out the device. However, this requires strength, time and tools.
The expert noted that many modern laptops already have such a connector, so it is important to use it, especially in crowded places, for example, in transport or in events.
But, even if the laptop is still stolen, the device will be almost useless for the thief if the password in BIOS / UEFI is installed in advance-hardware protection, which is much more difficult to hack than a regular password for entering the OS. It is important to remember that the password should be reliable, but easy to do.
“Important: the password should not only be reliable, but also memorable. Be sure to save it in a place inaccessible to others, and do not use the same combination as for other services, ”the expert said.
