The State Corporation Rosatom plans to obtain permission to enter into the experimental and industrial operation of the first power unit of the new Kursk NPS-2 until the end of 2025. This was announced by the representative of the concern Elena Ilyina during the Technoprom forum in Novosibirsk.
Kursk NPP-2 is one of the most priority projects of the Russian nuclear industry. The station under construction refers to substitution objects and is equipped with reactors of a new type of VVER TOI. These water-water energy reactors of generation III+ are characterized by increased safety and efficiency indicators.
Currently, four key control points have already been achieved by the project. The completion of the construction of the entire station is scheduled for 2027, when a permit for commissioning a second power unit is expected to receive.
The total power of the two power units under construction will be about 2,510 MW. After completing construction work and starting in industrial operation, each unit is designed for 60 years of work. The station will generate electricity and ensure the heat supply of consumers.
The new nuclear power plant is located in the city of Kurchatov, Kursk region.
