Minsk resident, enthusiastic about retrote technology, restored one of the most powerful working stations in the mid-1990s-IBM PC 365. It took about five years, writes Tech.onliner.by.
IBM PC 365 was produced for engineers, architects and scientists who lacked the power of ordinary PCs. The main difference is the support of two Pentium Pro processors, operating at frequencies of up to 200 MHz and equipped with a quick cache. These processors first used “speculative implementation” – a technology that later caused the known vulnerabilities of Specter and Meltdown.
In his car, Artyom installed two processors and a rare memory of 512 MB for that time, which he found only on eBay. The second processor required a rare power module, the search for which took months.
In addition to the original keyboard, mouse and IBM monitor, the assembly has the legendary 3D-accelerator of 3DFX Voodoo 1. In 1996, it became the first mass board that can significantly improve 3D graphics in games like Quake. Another rarity is the CD-drive Creative with the remote control and IR transmitter. In the 90s, he made it possible to control the player and even the mouse cursor from the sofa, turning the PC into the “multimedia center”.
In 1995-1996, such a configuration cost about $ 4,000 – adjusted for inflation it was about $ 10,000 today. Such computers could afford only wealthy users and organizations.
