From August 27, US President Donald Trump will introduce new tariffs for goods from India, raising them to 50%. However, this will not affect the production of Apple in this country.
The semiconductors and products manufactured on their basis, such as the iPhone, are already exempted from the current 25% of mutual tariffs. According to information from CNBC, the decree on raising tariffs doubles 25% of mutual tariffs up to 50%, but semiconductors will still be exempted from tariffs.
Apple will not affect 25% of the return duties introduced by India on August 1, and, probably, the situation will not change, even if at the end of August duties increase to 50%. This is due to the fact that Apple transfers a significant part of its production from China to India to diversify the supply chain due to tension in trade relations between the United States and China. Apple partners, such as Foxconn and Pegatron, opened the iPhone assembly plants in India, and all five iPhone 16 models are gathered in the country for Indian buyers and exports to countries such as the United States.
The order that makes Apple from response duties is temporary, and exceptions can be canceled by decision of Trump. He emphasized that no one would be left without attention, and his administration is actively working on the introduction of specific duties on semiconductors that can affect Apple products.
