The unmanned electric train “Swallow” on the Moscow Central Ring transported passengers for more than 80 thousand kilometers. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Alexei Shilo at the forum “Unmanned Systems: Technologies of the Future”.
According to Shilo, passengers can now evaluate the work of an autonomous train. A similar unmanned tram in Moscow overcame over 6 thousand kilometers, demonstrating stable work.
The Ministry of Transport also notes successes in sea transportation. Since 2023, two unmanned ferries transported more than 2 million tons of cargo between Kaliningrad and mainland Russia, overcoming 200 thousand naval miles.
The ministry expects the main benefits from the introduction of unmanned technologies in logistics. Automated freight transportation on public roads can significantly reduce costs and increase delivery efficiency.
In the near future, it is planned to introduce a bill on highly automated vehicles. The document is already undergoing a final discussion with experts.
Shilo emphasized the need to switch from individual experiments to a comprehensive digital ecosystem of transport. Particular attention is paid to the development of “digital seamless sky” technology for the integration of various types of autonomous transport.
