Novgorod scientists have developed wastewater treatment technology

05.09.2025

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation reported that scientists from Veliky Novgorod have created a new method of wastewater treatment, which allows you to extract heavy metals with an efficiency of up to 60%. The development solves the problem of toxic precipitation, which now occupy more than 100 thousand hectares of silt sites throughout Russia.

The technology is based on the use of sparsely soluble calcium salts, which violate the connection of metals with precipitate particles. This allows you to convert harmful substances into a solution and separate them from safe mass. The purified residue complies with state standards and can be used in agriculture as a fertilizer.

The method was tested on the materials of the treatment station of Veliky Novgorod, where the analysis showed a significant excess of norms for the content of heavy metals. After processing, the precipitate becomes suitable for use in the agricultural sector or land reclamation.

The technology opens the possibility of processing more than 90% of the toxic waste of treatment facilities, which will reduce the environmental load in the country.
