The Russian device for studying moon dust will fly on Chinese “Chan-7”

05.09.2025

The Russian scientific device “The dust monitoring of the Moon” will be installed on the Chinese spacecraft of the Chan-7 mission. The corresponding memorandum was signed by Roscosmos and the Chinese National Space Administration after a meeting of the presidents of Russia and China.

The device will allow scientists to study the lunar dust and the underlying exosphere of the moon, register micrometeorites and secondary particles of lunar regolithic, as well as explore the low -energy plasma near the satellite surface.

The exosphere of the moon is a very sparse “atmosphere” that passes meteorites to the surface. When meteorites fall from the surface, particles called secondary ones are knocked out, which the device can analyze. Due to the subtlety of the exosphere, it can only be studied from the surface of the moon.

The Mission of Chan-7 is planned to launch in the second half of 2026. The main goal is scientific research in the area of the South Pole of the Moon.
