US President Donald Trump announced plans to introduce tariffs for the import of semiconductors from companies that do not place production within the country. The application sounded on the eve of dinner with the heads of leading technological corporations.
Since the beginning of the new presidential term, Trump has been actively using tariff policy for pressure on foreign companies and governments. His decisions have already caused tension in trade relations, fluctuations in financial markets and an increase in uncertainty in the global economy.
According to the president, the tariffs will not affect companies that are already building or plan to build factories in the United States. At the same time, he has not yet specified the exact deadlines and the amount of duty. Earlier in August, Trump spoke about the possibility of introducing fees at about 100 percent.
The American administration relies on the return of the production of semiconductors to the country. Large corporations, such as Taiwanese TSMC and South Korean Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, have already announced investments in the construction of factories in the United States.
