YouTube has announced plans to reinstate several accounts that were previously banned for spreading false claims about Covid-19 and the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The move comes as part of a broader policy revision aimed at balancing content moderation with freedom of expression.

The platform stated that while harmful misinformation remains prohibited, it will now allow more room for controversial or disputed narratives, especially in political contexts. Critics warn that the change could open the door to renewed disinformation campaigns, while supporters argue it protects democratic discourse.

“We’re evolving our approach to reflect the complexity of public debate,” said a YouTube spokesperson.
