A training course was launched in Ashgabat, jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the State Veterinary Service of Turkmenistan under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan. This 3-day training course is being held within the framework of the project “Pandemic Preparedness and Response through One Health Approach in Central Asia”. This project aims to further enhance communication, enhance cooperation, collect and share information between veterinarians, human health and wildlife specialists based on a One Health approach.
The main goal of this training course is to study the spread of infectious diseases in animals, biosecurity, sampling and increase interdisciplinary cooperation, and to increase the theoretical and practical experience of national specialists in these areas. This is the first time such an organization has been held in Turkmenistan, and about 30 specialists from the veterinary service, the health system and the wildlife sector are participating in it.

The first day of the training was in the form of a seminar, and FAO experts David Paton, Duriya Charyphan and Shebnem Gurbuz shared their rich experience. David Paton gave various presentations to the participants, giving an interesting talk about the disease – its epidemiology, diagnostic methods, prevention measures, vaccination. He also made special notes on biosecurity to the participants. During the seminar, a question-and-answer discussion was also organized between international and local experts. The second day of the training will be spent in the form of practical training on disease diagnosis and sampling methods on farms.
