Brotherly and strategic ties between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan achieved significant progress in 2025, strengthened by the political will of the leaders of both nations. Mutual trust and friendship expanded, while high‑level visits and diplomatic exchanges laid a solid foundation for the active development of cooperation across all areas.
This was stated in an interview with AZERTAC by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Gismat Gozalov.
The Ambassador congratulated Turkmenistan on the 30th anniversary of the recognition of its permanent neutrality, emphasizing that Azerbaijan holds deep respect for this policy, endorsed by the United Nations, and has acted as a co‑author of relevant resolutions between 1995 and 2025.
He praised the role of Turkmenistan’s National Leader, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in Azerbaijan’s acceptance as a full member of the Consultative Council of Central Asian Heads of State. According to him, the historic event held in Tashkent in 2025 will effectively broaden regional cooperation.
The Ambassador also highlighted the construction of a mosque in the city of Fuzuli, initiated by Turkmenistan’s National Leader, which residents regarded as a symbol of respect for shared values. Furthermore, the signing of an agreement between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Charitable Foundation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to support children in need of guardianship opened a new chapter in humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
