On 16 December 2025 the White House issued a new decree aimed at continuing the President’s efforts to ensure the security of the United States’ borders and to protect American society and citizens. The decree was adopted taking into account positive bilateral talks between Turkmenistan and the United States and effective measures taken by the Government of Turkmenistan.
- Lifting of restrictions: Under the decree, the previous restrictions on non‑immigrant visas will be lifted as of 1 January 2026.
- Procedures: Visa issuance and processing procedures, as well as related security checks, will continue in accordance with applicable law.
- Cooperation and information exchange: Cooperation and information exchange between the competent authorities of the two countries on security and migration matters will be maintained and further developed.
The decision reflects the results of diplomatic negotiations between Turkmenistan and the United States and the measures taken by the Turkmen Government in line with international security and migration requirements. The decree is expected to contribute to the further development of political and economic ties between the two countries and to strengthen mutual trust in international policy and security matters.
- Resumption of visa services: From 1 January 2026, U.S. diplomatic and consular missions will resume processing non‑immigrant visa applications in the regular manner.
- Information for applicants: Official information and requirements for visa applicants will be available on the websites and official channels of the relevant U.S. consular services.
- Monitoring and assessment: The competent authorities of both countries will regularly review the decree’s implementation, taking into account security and migration risks.
The decree is an important step resulting from international cooperation and diplomacy, opening a new chapter in the political and economic relations between the two countries. The Government of Turkmenistan and the relevant agencies will coordinate measures for its implementation to safeguard the interests of citizens and travelers.
