26.12.2025

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Turkmenistan’s Special Representative for Caspian Affairs Murad Atajanov held negotiations during which they outlined the main areas of cooperation for the coming year.

The parties focused on preparations for the 7th Caspian Summit, scheduled to take place in the summer of 2026 in Tehran. Coordination has already begun to ensure that the upcoming meeting of presidents is enriched with concrete agreements in the fields of security, transportation and regional stability.

One of the most sensitive issues discussed was the continued decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea. The diplomats considered the creation of a special working group tasked with monitoring the situation, collecting scientific data and developing measures to adapt port infrastructure to the new environmental conditions.

The talks reaffirmed that the Caspian agenda remains a strategic pillar of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran, contributing to the strengthening of mutual trust, the expansion of regional interaction and the promotion of sustainable development across the Caspian region.
