Ashgabat, 24 December 2025 – WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan convened a meeting dedicated to strengthening mechanisms and procedures for planning, preparedness, and response to public health emergencies at points of entry in Turkmenistan. The meeting took place Yyldyz hotel in Ashgabat and brought together key stakeholders to advance national capacity in line with international standards.

The primary focus of the meeting was to review progress in implementing measures aimed at reinforcing national systems for emergency response at points of entry, including airports, seaports, and land crossings. Participants discussed strategies to enhance operational readiness and ensure compliance with the International Health Regulations (IHR), which set global requirements for preventing and responding to cross-border health threats.
The event provided an opportunity for technical consultations and knowledge exchange between the participants. Discussions centered on improving coordination, strengthening surveillance and response mechanisms, and developing joint plans to address potential public health emergencies effectively. The meeting underscored the importance of integrated approaches to preparedness, ensuring that Turkmenistan remains equipped to manage health risks at its borders and safeguard public health.
WHO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Turkmenistan in building resilient systems for emergency preparedness and response, emphasizing the critical role of points of entry in preventing the international spread of diseases and protecting communities.
