Ashgabat, 22 December – WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan hosted Annual National Meeting on the implementation of the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework in Awaza, Balkan Velayat. The event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and aimed to strengthen national capacities for influenza surveillance and pandemic preparedness.
The meeting brought together representatives from key health institutions, epidemiological and virological surveillance specialists, and veterinary sector experts to review progress achieved under the PIP Framework during 2025. Discussions focused on enhancing readiness and response measures for potential influenza pandemics, improving national preparedness plans, and sharing experiences from the implementation of sentinel surveillance systems and updated influenza monitoring programs.
Participants examined the outcomes of recent monitoring visits to sentinel surveillance sites and virological laboratories and explored strategies for integrated surveillance across human and animal health sectors. The event underscored Turkmenistan’s commitment to global health security and its partnership with WHO in mitigating the risks posed by influenza and other acute respiratory infections.
This meeting was held within the framework of the implementation of the Partnership Contribution to the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Mechanism project in Turkmenistan.
The WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan reaffirmed its dedication to supporting national efforts in pandemic preparedness and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a robust and coordinated response to future health threats.
