A meeting with the Ambassador of Canada to Turkmenistan was held at the MFA of Turkmenistan

On January 27, 2026, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan (with the residence in Astana) Christopher Duggan.

During the meeting, the sides expressed the interest of both countries in developing constructive cooperation. In particular, they emphasized the importance of regular political-diplomatic dialogue and the similarity of the parties’ approaches to current issues on the international agenda.

Among the priority areas of Turkmen-Canadian cooperation, the activation of partnership in the trade-economic, as well as cultural-humanitarian spheres, was highlighted.

Noting the positive experience of interaction within international platforms, the interlocutors expressed their readiness to continue the practice of mutual support for initiatives within the framework of the United Nations.

In order to intensify bilateral cooperation, the prospect of holding inter-ministerial consultations between the foreign ministries during the current year was considered. In this context, the expediency of further improving the bilateral legal and contractual framework was also noted.
