On January 14, 2026, a meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan was held to discuss preparations for the upcoming election campaigns. The meeting was attended by members of the Central Commission, senior officials from the central bodies of the Democratic Party, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agrarian Party, public organizations and associations across the country, and representatives of the media.
In accordance with the Resolution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, on March 29 of this year, elections will be held for members of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Altyn Asyr etrap of the Ahal velayat, Garashsyzlyk, Gubadag etraps of the Dashoguz velayat, Dovletli etrap, Farab, Garabekauul etraps of the Lebap velayat, Oguzkhan etrap of the Mary velayat, and in connection with the early expiration of the term of office of the Mejlis deputies in electoral districts No. 74 “Amyderýa”, No. 79 “Darganata” of the Lebap velayat, No. 104 “Peşanaly” and No. 106 “Wekil” of the Mary velayat, as well as members of velayat, etrap, city Halk Maslakhaty and Gengeshes.
The main item on the agenda was the announcement of the start of the election campaign on January 15, 2026. The meeting also considered the delineation of constituency and precinct boundaries and analyzed the composition of the current district and precinct commissions.
The importance of the upcoming events in the context of Turkmenistan’s commitment to democratic development was emphasized.
At the same time, guidelines and instructions for participants in the electoral process were approved, and a series of training seminars for commission members are planned.
