10.01.2026

ASHGABAT, January 10. Belarus and Turkmenistan are continuing discussions on the possibility of resuming direct air flights between the two countries, according to sources at the Belarusian Embassy in Turkmenistan.

The issue was addressed on January 8, 2026, during a meeting in Ashgabat between the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Turkmenistan, Stanislau Chepurny, and Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers for culture, tourism, and media, Bahar Seyidova.

Restoring air connectivity — a new stage in economic and cultural relations

During the meeting, the parties discussed not only the resumption of direct flights but also a broad range of cooperation areas, including:

  • increasing tourism flows,
  • expanding business relations,
  • strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation,
  • creating new opportunities in logistics and transportation.

Direct flights between Belarus and Turkmenistan existed in the past but were suspended for various reasons. Both sides now emphasize that restoring this route would be economically beneficial for both countries.

The initiative aligns with Turkmenistan’s broader policy of expanding international air connections. Earlier, Turkmenistan and Japan agreed to intensify efforts to launch direct flights between the two countries.

The resumption of direct air flights between Belarus and Turkmenistan is viewed as an important step that will contribute to:

  • the development of tourism,
  • the expansion of business cooperation,
  • the strengthening of humanitarian ties,
  • the growth of logistical and trade opportunities.

Relevant agencies of both countries are currently reviewing technical, legal, and economic aspects necessary for launching the flights.
