Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Expand Cooperation in the Water Management Sector

The fifth meeting of the Joint Turkmen‑Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Water Resources Management was held between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The meeting was described as an important step toward elevating cooperation between the two countries in the water management sphere to a new level.

The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Tachmurat Atahallyyev. The Uzbek side was represented by Shukhrat Ganiyev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Agricultural Development. Representatives of government agencies from both countries responsible for water resource management, irrigation, ecology, and environmental protection also took part in the event.

Speakers emphasized that relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are based on the principles of friendship, mutual trust, and equality, and highlighted the steady development of cooperation in the water sector. The sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation not only in the rational use of water resources but also in economic, infrastructure, and humanitarian areas.

During the meeting, proposals were discussed regarding effective water resource management, ensuring environmental safety in the region, introducing new technologies, and implementing joint projects.

Both sides stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation and enhancing the work of the joint commission in the future.
