The Concept of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2026 and the Plan of Measures for its implementation have been published on the official website of the CIS Executive Committee.
The Concept defines five key areas: ensuring peace and security, developing economic and transport connectivity, digital transformation, the environmental agenda, and humanitarian cooperation. In the political sphere, it also envisions strengthening regional stability and intensifying diplomatic dialogue between CIS countries.
As noted in the Concept, the economic track includes the development of the “North–South” and “East–West” transport corridors, the expansion of energy cooperation, and the promotion of trade and investment. The environmental agenda provides for the development of joint projects in the field of renewable energy sources and adaptation to climate change.
According to the Plan of Measures, 25 major events are scheduled to take place throughout 2026, seven of which will be held in Turkmenistan. Among them are the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in May, the meeting of the Economic Council in September, the meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State in Avaza on October 9, as well as the meeting of the Council on Cultural Cooperation in Ashgabat.
