05.03.2026

On March 4, 2026, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova and the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for Central Asia Matilda Bogner.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan advocates for constructive dialogue on human rights based on mutual respect, trust, and consideration of national specificities of development.

Special attention was given to the implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030, where human rights issues constitute a cross-cutting theme across all areas – from social policy and gender equality to the rule of law.

The sides noted the role of the Interdepartmental Commission for Ensuring the Implementation of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law as a key platform for coordinating human rights policy and engagement with international partners.

The Turkmen side expressed appreciation to OHCHR for the appointment of an international expert as Human Rights Adviser within the UN Country Team in Turkmenistan. The implementation of this decision is intended to strengthen the foundation for joint initiatives and effective dialogue.

The sides expressed their readiness to further develop human rights mechanisms based on the principles of dignity and inclusiveness, while maintaining their commitment to the depoliticization of international cooperation.
