BAKU. In partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Republic of Azerbaijan will host the global celebrations for World Environment Day (WED) in Baku on June 5, 2026.
As reported by APA via the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the event will be held under the motto: “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” Azerbaijan officially accepted the relay to host World Environment Day during the 2024 ceremony held in the Republic of Korea.
Environmental Priorities and Commitments:
Established by the UN General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day serves as a global platform connecting millions of people. In this context, Azerbaijan continues its active work in the following areas:
- Nature Conservation: Expanding specially protected natural areas and preserving biodiversity.
- Ecosystem Restoration: Measures for the rehabilitation of natural zones and the fight against climate change.
- Climate Agenda: As a party to the Paris Agreement, the country is fulfilling its obligations to reduce emissions.
- Green Energy: Active expansion of renewable energy sources.
From COP29 to Practical Action:
Building on the momentum generated by hosting the COP29 summit, Azerbaijan aims to use this event to further strengthen international cooperation and transform environmental pledges into concrete practical steps.
