The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, arrived in Ashgabat to attend the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government. The Russian Prime Minister was welcomed at the capital’s international airport by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, Ivan Volynkin. This was reported by the official website of the Government of the Russian Federation.
Within the framework of the visit, Mikhail Mishustin met with the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov. During the high-level talks, the sides exchanged views in detail on the main areas of bilateral cooperation. Special attention was paid to the industrial, energy, and logistics sectors during the discussion.
In this regard, the great importance of the “North—South” international transport corridor was highlighted, as it opens up new trade opportunities and creates extensive conditions for accessing the markets of China, India, the Persian Gulf countries, the Asia-Pacific region, and Africa.
In his statement following the productive meeting, Head of Government Mikhail Mishustin emphasized: “I hope that our visit will give a new impetus to the development of not only trade and economic relations, but also cultural and humanitarian ties that connect our friendly peoples.”
