A major transformation is underway in Kazakhstan’s education system. The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has signed a historic Decree on introducing artificial intelligence (AI) into the secondary education system. According to the document, a new phase of digital innovation will launch in the country’s schools starting from 2026.
In accordance with the approved program, a special action plan for the widespread integration of modern technologies in secondary education will be implemented between 2026 and 2029. The new reforms focus not only on technical upgrades but also on fundamentally modernizing the core educational process.
The key areas outlined in the President’s Decree include:
- Personalizing and adapting the learning process based on each student’s individual abilities and learning pace;
- Upgrading digital infrastructure and ensuring all schools have high-speed internet access;
- Continuously upgrading teachers’ professional skills to adapt to new technologies;
- Ensuring strict protection of personal data and cybersecurity.
According to the document, by August 1, 2026, all schools across the nation will be fully equipped with the latest necessary technical infrastructure. Simultaneously, special state standards for the ethical and practical use of artificial intelligence will be developed.
It is highly emphasized that this initiative is not meant to replace teachers, but rather to serve as an efficient, supportive tool during the educational process. This system will allow educators to manage their time more effectively and provide a more tailored approach to every student.
